The Sky Sage - Louise

Description

"My brother loved to write, whether it was a diary entry, a short story, or political document. He always wrote down every piece of information he gathered when he needed or wanted to research something. However, he kept some findings secret for protection. I have no doubts that the answer we're looking for is hidden somewhere in his chambers. Oh...sniff...Wencelis..." - Louise

So, after not producing a Dawn of Darkness character concept since the holidays, I've made a new one! This time, it's Louise, the sister of King Wencelis, the guy I drew last time. However, I swear I named her before I knew FE7's Louise existed (DoD is my Fire Emblem fic). xP And I know, I still need to work on hands a little and I got the hairstyle (mostly) from Helene, also from FE7 (I did tweak it a little though, like the thingies on the hair strands and making the bun look different). I did try some slightly different shading techniques this time though, as I used more brushing rather than all dodge and burn tooling. And I like my results a lot. :D

Louise is the younger sister of Wencelis and the crown princess of Talgria. Unlike her brother, she would be playable if DoD were a game, though like other royals in the story, she has her own unique class. She is equivalent to the Falcon Knight class, but unlike them, Louise cannot only wield lances and swords, but anima magic as well (that's an Elthunder tome at her belt there, hehe). She comes equipped only with a steel greatlance and Elthunder, however. The player would be able to give her a sword at any time though. Also unlike Falcon Knights, Louise can't promote right away upon reaching level 21. She'll max out at level 20 and requires a special item to reach her third tier class. What is the item? Well, I'm not spoiling it (though, if you've been following my gallery, you might be able to figure it out).

When she first appears, Louise isn't a major character and simply remains by Wencelis's side. She worries for him a lot, however, especially when the pressure of the ongoing war begins getting to him. Like her brother though, Louise doesn't smile much and isn't an extremely happy person. But unlike Wencelis, the reason for this is completely unknown, even to other characters. Eventually, however, Louise finally reveals the shocking truth. Despite her secrets, however, Louise is also shown to be a curious woman, as she is interested in learning more about Ike and Tellius. She also tends to have outbursts, like when she screams at Leyon for embarrassing her when she finds him moronically talking in his sleep right in front of the other Talgrian Royal Knights (quite a LOL scene too. XD). Louise is also shown to be susceptible to terrible bouts of depression when, late in the story, personal tragedy seems to press upon her from all sides. Because of her prowess with using magic while airborne, Louise is often called the Sky Sage.

As a unit in battle, Louise is generally a good fighter to have around. She isn't as fast as Faline or as strong and durable as Marina, the other two available Peg knights, but she is useful in the fact that she can wield magic and she has the highest magic and resistance of the three. She is also pretty skillful, and would be able to engage in a triangle attack with the other two Peg knights. Louise's only real flaws are her subpar defense and the fact that she can't promote until she receives the necessary item. There aren't an insane amount of chapters between her joining and her receiving the item, however, so she shouldn't have to wait long if she's maxed out before then.

Hey there, sorry about the delay in reviewing this. I got a bit wrapped up in some reading. Anyhow, this looks impressive. You've got a helluva color scheme going and, also of importance, the sheer difference in colors seems to negate the whole she-looks-too-much-like-Elincia bit that I was worried about in the lineart phase. Good one. The way you drew her armor, tunic, hair and lance, in particular those downward curling braids, is also excellent. The satchel at her side is also a nice touch, though I wonder if it might've conveyed her unique class if the satchel was on her other side and the tome's spine more visible. Maybe a partial lightning symbol could then be added on the spine? But, that's probably not essential. By and large, the description is much better. I do have some thoughts on how we might round it out, though. I'll send those via a note. As always, great work, and catch you later.
