Jerec - The Daein Vagabond

"As I was leaving Daein, I thought, why should I believe anything those dirtbags are saying? Or have said, for that matter? They were wrong about you, they might be wrong about the laguz too. After all, Kiel and Sara proved that. While I was in Crimea, working with Queen Elincia to get supplies for Daein, I also saw the laguz working to rebuild the capital and the surrounding cities. And…I realized just how much better things would be…if more beorc and laguz worked together…" - Jerec in The Secret Sword

So, I haven't made a mug in a long time and I felt like doing one of Jerec. He's an OC in two of my Fire Emblem short stories, Ashes of War and The Secret Sword, and additional appearances are planned. Both AoW and TSS take place between Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, and are related to Dawn of Darkness. The Secret Sword is sort of meant to lead into Radiant Dawn as well. Though Jerec is a character in my writing, he was actually created by one of my best friends, Falchion1984. I simply built up his character more and came up with most of his backstory.

Jerec is the son of Bryce, one of Daein's former Four Riders from Path of Radiance. He was a captain in the Daein army who served during the Mad King's War and, briefly, following the conflict until he resigned shortly after. He is clearly aware that Ike was the one who killed Bryce in battle in the Mad King's War and, as might be expected, he and Ike did not get along well at first. Eventually, however, Jerec and Ike grew to respect one another. Following these events, Jerec returned to Daein but found his home unappealing. Since Daein lost the Mad King's War, they're now under the rule of Begnion, who, as Radiant Dawn players know, treated the nation like dirt. The people mainly blamed Ike for their troubles and Jerec eventually grew sick of it all. So, he resigned his commission in the army and left, not intending to return. He decided to go back to Crimea to find a new life, though he remains ever wary of his origins being discovered, as the consequences would prove...unpleasant. Jerec later meets Ike again and participates in another adventure but departs very soon afterward, worried that his origins as a Daein have been discovered. When asked where he'll go, his only reply is "The same place we're all going: forward. As for where that is, I'll find out when I get there."

Jerec is older than Ike, though only by a few years or so. At first, he comes across as abrasive and mean-spirited, and, being from Daein, his initial opinion of laguz was decidedly unfriendly, but his meeting with Ike changes him considerably. He still has a tart tongue and a quick temper, but has gained a new eagerness to learn and reexamine what he thought he knew, such as the laguz. Despite his departure from Daein and his respect or Ike, he holds his father in the highest regard and is eager to do honor to his memory. Jerec is also an exceptional fighter, though he has a bad habit of getting in over his head.

This mug, by the way, is how Jerec appears in The Secret Sword. I really didn't feel like drawing out his armor, so yeah. Just imagine him wearing the same kind of armor Halberdiers have in Radiant Dawn, only colored black and you're good.

He will also be returning in DoD's sequel as well as in a short story that features him as the main character. :3
